HD Air cooled big twins are easily one of the most modified motorcycle engines around.
The available performance parts on the market from exhaust & air filter systems, cams, throttle bodies, modified heads, big bore cylinders & pistons etc, present many variables into the tuning process.

Add to this the growing number of after market EFI plug and play modules and interfaces available to modify fuel injection flow, plus a never ending stream of poor information via the internet and corporate hype, we see a lot of badly tuned engines coming into the shop.

Before you modify your engine, consider talking to an expert tuning tech first and be informed from someone who actually tunes modified Harley engines on a daily basis.

Important Pre Tuning Tips:

One of the crucial pre-tuning requirements for expert tuning is the accurate extraction of Air Fuel Ratio under Load. (AFR vs Torque).

The rear wheel is given percentages of load while running the engine to simulate real road throttle positions. When those conditions are meet, then AFR is recorded and values or calculations in the EFI software can be correctly set to meet AFR targets for the given load.

AFR is obtained via an 18mm port WIDE BAND 02 SENSOR inserted into the exhaust. If your exhaust system does not allow an 18mm sensor to be positioned for accurate AFR extraction, then your header pipes may need to have ports welded in place. See Big Bore & Cams page for more detail.
